BBQ Apple Pie Spare Ribs
Ingredients:
Rake of Spare Ribs
Kosher Salt
Apple Cider
UFO BBQs Abduction Rub
Apple Pie BBQ Sauce:
3/4 Cup Apple Butter
1/2 Cup Ketchup
1/4 Cup Brown Sugar
1/4 Cup Apple Cider Vinegar
1 Tsp Kosher Salt
1/2 Tsp Onion Powder
1/2 Tsp Garlic Powder
1/2 Tsp Black Pepper
Step 1: Trim and Salt the Ribs
Trim off any excess fat, cut off the sternum section, and remove the back membrane
Check out this recipe where I go into depth on trimming!
Using a ratio of 1/2 Tsp Salt to LB of meat, coat the exterior in Kosher Salt. Put into the fridge until the salt is absorbed
Step 2: Apply Binder and Rub
Starting with the bone side, apply a light layer of apple cider, and then coat completely in my abduction rub (NOTE: if you salted the ribs in the prior step, do not add kosher salt to my abduction rub).
Flip the rack over, and do the same on the meat side (make sure you get the edges as well)
Place onto a wire rack and back into the fridge until ready to smoke (can be overnight)
Step 3: Smoke at 225
Preheat smoker to 225
Place ribs onto the smoker bone side down
Smoke until the bark sets (3-4 hours)
Step 4: Begin Spritzing
Once the bark is set, begin spritzing the ribs with apple cider when they look too dry, or every 30-45 minutes
Step 5: Make Apple Pie BBQ Sauce
Combine all of the apple pie BBQ sauce ingredients (you may need to warm the apple butter to get it more viscous)
Heat on low to combine
Step 6: Begin Basting
When the ribs begin bending really well and are getting close to finished (temp around 185) begin to baste the ribs in the BBQ sauce
Keep basting every 20 minutes or so until the ribs bend to where you want them and are at your desired level of tenderness
Enjoy!
